Situation of the teaching performance evaluation at URACCAN - Las Minas Campus, 2007-2008
Abstract
The present study focused on the evaluation of the teaching staff performance at the University Campus in order to assess the current situation of URACCAN teachers´ evaluation performance, Las Minas Campus, 2007-2008 period. The methodology had a qualitative nature and the case study was assumed as an approach in the use of techniques such as the semi-structured qualitative interview and the documentary analysis. According to the findings, the current system of evaluation of the teaching performance is a systematic process, which purpose is to improve the teaching quality. This process is carried out each semester of the academic year with the teacher's self-evaluation methods, the evaluation of the students and the supervision of those who perform the coordination. The results are given to each teacher so they can see in which areas they have mastery and in which areas they need to improve. Many times these results do not convince teachers because there missing valid, reliable, objective techniques and indicators are needed that do not prop up in a way that contributes to improve teaching, and to increase self-esteem, motivation and the teaching prestige.
