The sociocultural institutionality of Laguna de Perlas communities: Haulover and Awas, RASS, Nicaragua
Abstract
In the communities of Laguna de Perlas; Haulover and Awas, the social capital is based on its different community structures. These at the territorial level have traditional structures such as Elders Councils, territorial and community assemblies, sindico, communal judge (Wihta). Within the communities, the city halls are perceived as benefactors; but, that also needs to articulate actions with the traditional leaders, according to the Law of Municipalities is mandated. It is also recognized that organizations that have supported development have emerged in the last twenty-five years. Organizations that at a certain moment have replaced the role of the State, mainly in the case of health and the promotion of community participation. Finally, it is necessary to improve the synergy between the different actors of the municipality, because according to the inhabitants, it can help to overcome the contradictions and conflicts between the different structures of community power.
